About Diane

Diane’s experience in the insurance industry is one of the crowning achievements of her life. Beginning as an adjuster in the 1980s and 1990s and later becoming Vice President of Free State Staffing in the 2000s, Diane’s passion for the people she served and those she worked alongside was undeniable. She helped establish the Orlando Claims Association and became a respected presence in the insurance industry throughout Florida and the greater Southeast.

Despite life’s challenges, Diane built a remarkable career and community. She came to Florida for a fresh start, raised two children as a single mother, served an industry she loved, and consistently gave back through volunteer work.

In late 2015, just as Diane was reaching the peak of her career, she was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS causes progressive deterioration of muscle and motor function, often requiring extensive long-term medical care and daily assistance. For many individuals and families, the financial and emotional impact is substantial, with first-year care costs alone often exceeding $50,000.

As a single mother whose daughter had just entered high school and who was forced into early retirement, Diane’s colleagues, friends, and professional network came together to organize an annual golf tournament in her honor — a way to stay connected, show support, and help ease some of the challenges she faced.

Now, nearly ten years after her diagnosis, Diane continues to beat the odds. While her mobility is extremely limited, she approaches each day with strength and gratitude. The Diane Mummaw Annual Golf Tournament remains one of the brightest moments of her year, bringing together business partners, colleagues, friends, and family. Since 2018, this event has served as a meaningful way for the community to celebrate Diane and stand alongside her through shared connection and support.
